Once a year, the Four Season's Hotel opens its coveted private Gherardesca gardens. One of the largest gardens in Florence, this is an Eden for the privileged guests of the hotel, put on this day, open to anyone. Proceeds from the donations and a percentage of what is purchased goes to the Institute of the Innocenti, a six-century old institution offering protective services to children and families. The site of the first orphanage in Europe was in Florence. Florence has this tradition.
The park is splendid and draws a lively population of Florentines. A great chance to photograph willing spectators, who, like everyone else have come to do their fair bit of people-watching.
